  Burrowing Owl

The Burrowing Owl, Athene cunicularia, occurs widely from Western Canada and the U.S. to southern South America. This owl prefers open, dry grasslands, agricultural and range lands, and desert habitats often associated with burrowing animals, particularly prairie dogs, ground squirrels and badgers. Burrowing Owls feed on a wide variety of animal prey and also eat fruits and seeds.
